Bear trap guide OutOfOrder #1885

To make things easier to understand, I will first explain a few basic mechanics that are extremely important.

We will frequently use the terms Main rally, Main squad, Jellyfish rally, and Jellyfish squad.

  • Main rally: These are our TOP boosted rallies, and you must join them using ONLY a Main squad. In these rallies, we strictly adhere to the 5/5/90 ratio for calling the rally. These rallies must have a total capacity sufficient to accommodate (ideally) all participants' archers.
    • How do we determine who becomes a Main rally? We first need to know how many archers we have that need to be used. Then, we 'take' the required number of top rallies so that their total capacity is sufficient for all participants' archers. In other words, we don't decide who will be a Main rally — we decide how many Main rallies we need to have. Keeping the Main rallies clean with the 5/5/90 ratio is crucial for this entire effort to work.
  • Main squad: These are the squads that join both Main rallies and Jellyfish rallies (both Main and Jellyfish!). Here, the 5/5/90 ratio must be strictly followed, and the correct heroes must be used.
  • Jellyfish rally: These are all rallies that are not Main rallies. Jellyfish rallies are used to maintain timed continuous waves. EVERY participant, without exception, must have a prepared Jellyfish rally squad with the absolute minimum number of troops, using a 5/5/90 ratio and the correct calling heroes. For example: Zoe + Petra + Marlin with 5/5/90 troops. Yes... that's only 100 troops total! Not 100k!
  • Jellyfish squads: These are squads that join ONLY Jellyfish rallies! They have no business being in Main rallies under any circumstances and WILL be kicked if sent to a Main rally! For joining Jellyfish rallies, there is currently no limit on troop capacity or ratio that needs to be followed, meaning there are no restrictions for Jellyfish squads. The only rule that remains in effect is using the correct joining heroes.

Rules for Main Rallies

  • Main Rally Callers: Sigi, Equinox, Thunder, Bloodfeast, Dido. (For now. In the future the rallies will be more)
  • A Main rally can also be called with a minimum amount of troops, while still maintaining the 5/5/90 ratio.
  • Joining Requirement: Join ONLY using the 5/5/90 ratio and a squad size from 70k to 120k.

Ratio 5/5/90 For joining Main rallies:

70k = 3500 / 3500 / 63000
80k = 4000 / 4000 / 72000
90k = 4500 / 4500 / 81000
100k = 5000 / 5000 / 90000
110k = 5500 / 5500 / 99000
120k = 6000 / 6000 / 108000

Custom squad capacities can be used in any way, but the 5/5/90 ratio must strictly be maintained.

Additional Note: Sigi and Bloodfeast are allowed to join with larger squads due to their high volume of archers, provided that the 5/5/90 ratio is strictly maintained.

Please set up your squad presets in advance with the required troop counts. If anyone still doesn't know how to use this feature, feel free to ask or click here.

Wave Timings & Rally Leaders (Can be adjusted every time. Look at the group chat before BT)

  • ❗ 30:00 (Wave 1): Sigismund, Thunderking, Equinox, Bloodfeast, Dido, Dryjan, Meep.
  • ❗ 28:30 (Wave 2): Lora, Coyote jpa, Saoirse, Seira + others (if there aren't enough rallies; otherwise, focus on filling existing rallies).

Strategy & Wave Mechanics

So... we've reached the most interesting and important part: how everything works and how to maximize our damage output.

The reason we use the 5/5/90 ratio is that archers deal the highest damage against the Bear. This is the main concept behind Main rallies — our strongest rallies, which will be filled exclusively with the maximum amount of archers.

We will execute attacks in waves. In an ideal scenario, each wave should accommodate all available troops from all participants.

  • How does it work? The First Wave launches with 5 Main rallies + 2 to 4 Jellyfish rallies to fit all our total troops. The next wave will launch at a specific timing using Jellyfish rallies.
  • Tested Mechanism: The number of troops sent by the rally caller does NOT affect the damage score of the joiners in that rally! This is precisely why Jellyfish rallies will be called with a minimum amount of troops. Even if there aren't enough joiners to fully fill a Jellyfish rally, the caller won't waste an entire squad of 120k troops.

The Wave Rotation:

  1. Wave 1 launches at the 30-minute mark, followed by Wave 2 a minute and a half later.
  2. Once Wave 1 returns after its attack, rally callers immediately start new rallies, which will sit empty for a minute and a half!
  3. Here is the trick! You don't rush to join the new Main rally right away; instead, every participant joins the second-wave rallies with all their available squads!
  4. After the second wave completes its attack, squads return to their castles and are immediately sent into the third wave, which is scheduled  to launch after roughly 3 minutes and a few seconds. This way, no one has idle troops sitting in their castle.
  5. Important Rule: You join Main rallies again ONLY using your Main squads! Under no circumstances do we send Jellyfish squads there!

Frequently Asked Questions & Tips

  • Worried about empty rallies? That problem is completely solved by callers using a minimum troop count!
  • Rally Calling Slot Mechanic: Starting a rally does NOT use up one of your standard march slots! If you normally have 5 march queues unlocked, for the Bear Trap you will have your regular 5 marches for joining PLUS an extra dedicated slot for calling!
