The very least you can do is enhance the helmet and boots of the archer hero you use for calling rallies. This is completely free and can be reset (also for free). Doing this will increase the lethality of all archers, which in turn will significantly boost the overall damage output.

If you are a free-to-play player, don't waste Forge Hammers on the gloves and armor. Archers are fragile by default and die quickly anyway. It is simply not worth spending your Forge Hammers there!
